The Romanian Cultural Institute (ICR) in New York will present, on Friday, the public reading of "Brancusi v. United States", adapted from the play of the same name by Tatiana Niculescu and translated into English by Amanda L. Andrei and Codin Andrei.
According to a press release sent to AGERPRES on Tuesday, it is the third event in the program "Brancusi Month in New York", organized by ICR New York, from 7 to 21 February, after the ones titled "The Music of Brancusi" (piano recital) and "Brancusi reimagined" (sculpture exhibition).
"Brancusi v. United States" by Tatiana Niculescu is a surrealist comic drama based on the 1928 trial of Romanian sculptor Constantin Brancusi (1876-1957), who sued the United States for not classifying his famous sculpture, "Bird in Space", as art, a lawsuit that succeeded in changing forever the definition of art in the United States and beyond.
Adapted for the stage by the young Romanian-born playwright, translator and artist Amanda L. Andrei and realized in collaboration with New York director Dina Vovsi, the show will feature a cast including actors A.J.. Ditty, Ethan Dubin, Lennox Duong, Vas Eli, Elijah Guo, Jasmine Sharma, Sarah Shin.
"The Brancusi Month in New York" brings to the attention of the New York public Brancusi's cultural legacy in visual arts, music, and theater, offering a complex perspective on how the great artist's work influences contemporary artists today. Through this initiative, ICR New York aims to celebrate not only the creation of an exceptional artist, but also his impact on universal culture, while strengthening the ties between the Romanian and American art scenes.
More details about ICR New York's ongoing projects can be found on the Institute's social networks and website.
