The Ministry of the Interior (MAI) State Secretary Raed Arafat visited the Ukrainian refugee camp in Husi on Wednesday, where he met with Assistant High Commissioner for Refugees (Operations), United Nations Refugee Agency, Raouf Mazou.

The point at Husi is the one in which the refugees who pass through the green corridor at Palanca reach. The UN official was briefed on the operation of the Husi refugee camp, set up by the Emergency Situations Inspectorate and the Husi City Hall, which has so far received more than 10,000 refugees.

"We have several things that have been done lately, we have increased our capacity and we continue to increase it. UNHCR has come up with additional accommodation capacity in Romania and we can make them available if necessary. Each ministry with medium and long-term competencies in the field of refugees already has coordinated commissions at the level of the Chancellery of the Prime Minister and which resolve the issues necessary for the integration of those who remain in Romania. Local authorities, civil society, citizens, central authorities have all worked together in one direction - to support refugees entering Romania," said Raed Arafat.

The MAI official specified that there are still things that can be improved in terms of managing the refugee situation and gave assurances that Romania has the capacity to receive a new wave of refugees, as the conflict continues.

"Since the aggression continues and people are not safe, there can always be a new wave and that wave can be of more vulnerable, more needy people, who are more dependent on what we have to offer, so we consider the worst case scenario. The worst case scenario is that a new wave may appear and it could be a major wave, and we will continue to be prepared for that," Raed Arafat said.

Raouf Mazou said that after the visits to Husi, Isaccea and Siret, he found that everything was very well prepared and that there were good conditions in the camps for receiving refugees. He noted the special attention given to mothers with children, especially since the situation in Ukraine forced many women to leave with children, Agerpres informs.
