The National Sanitary Veterinary and Food Safety Authority (ANSVSA) has temporarily opened a border railway checkpoint to facilitate the transit of products of animal origin from Ukraine intended for export.
"In the current context of the crisis in Ukraine, there has been a request from the Government of Ukraine to allow the transit through Romania of products of animal origin by rail, taking into account the fact that prior to the onset of the armed conflict, food exports from Ukraine were made through the port of Odessa, which is now blocked in the conflict zone. In order to support the Ukrainian government, the National Veterinary and Food Safety Authority (ANSVSA) has asked the European Commission (EC) for permission to temporarily turn the Vicsani - Dornesti entry point from Suceava into a Border Checkpoint for the railway transit of animal products from Ukraine," ANSVSA states in a press release sent to AGERPRES on Thursday.
The Vicsani - Dornesti entry point is presently approved, according to national legislation, only for the control of non-animal products and fodder from third countries, Agerpres.ro informs.
Since the onset of the war in Ukraine, ANSVSA has implemented all the flexibility measures adopted by the EC with regard to the conduct of import/transit operations of animals and goods originating from Ukraine subject to veterinary sanitary controls.
Following the request of ANSVSA, the EC has temporarily approved the Vicsani - Dornesti entry point as a railway border checkpoint for the control of the transit of animal products destined for export to other third countries, provided that ANSVSA, through specialized territorial structures, electronically monitors these transports and ensures that they are leaving the territory of the European Union.
