The National Liberal Party (PNL) has announced that its resigning co-chair Vasile Blaga will no longer run in this autumn's general election, and that its leadership will convene in the days ahead to decide on the best option to follow after Blaga's resignation.
In a press statement released on Wednesday, Blaga is quoted as having informed leader of the PNL Timis branch Nicolae Robu that he will not file a bid for the general election.
At the same time, PNL says Blaga's decision to step down as co-chair proves that he placed the integrity principles pledged by the party above his own political career.
Blaga on Wednesday resigned as PNL co-chair and coordinator of the electoral campaign for this autumn's general election.
His decision came after the National Anti-Corruption Directorate (DNA) ordered his prosecution over influence peddling while he was secretary general of a political party at rule. AGERPRES
