Romania's Minister of Labour and Social Solidarity Simona Bucura Oprescu and Albania's Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs Igli Hasani signed on Wednesday in Bucharest an administrative arrangement for the application of a social security agreement between Romania and Albania, a document that contributes to the consolidation of the legal framework for the coordination of social security between the two countries.
According to the Labour Ministry, the document contributes to the implementation of a bilateral legislative framework on social security, which main objectives are recognition and aggregation of the social security contribution times in both countries, choosing the social security legislation applicable to migrant workers, equal treatment, as well as the award of social security benefits in one of the two countries.
"Romania supports the process of Albania's integration with the great European family. We have many things in common, a history that binds us, a fairly large population of Aromanians in Albania, and the bilateral documents signed today further strengthen our co-operation in the field of labour and social protection for the citizens of both countries," according to Bucura-Oprescu.
The agreement and its administrative arrangement incorporate the modern principles of social security that ensure the protection and continuity of the social security rights of the insured persons of the two countries on the territory of the other.
Albania's Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs Igli Hasani was on an official visit to Romania to mark 30 years since the signing of the Treaty of Good-Neighbourliness and Friendly Co-operation between Romania and the Republic of Albania (May 11, 1994, Bucharest) and 70 years after the Romanian-Albanian diplomatic ties were promoted to embassies (June 30, 1954) and after the marking in 2023 of 110th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties between Romania and Albania.
