The Romanian and Spanish labour authorities will draw up a document in the form of a memorandum, agreement or protocol on pensions in order to streamline the transmission of documents between the responsible institutions in the two countries and to shorten waiting times for the calculation of pensions for Romanian citizens who have worked in these countries.
According to a press release from the Ministry of Labour, Family, Youth and Social Solidarity (MMFTSS), sent to AGERPRES on Wednesday, the decision to prepare such a document was made on Wednesday during a bilateral meeting between the Minister of Labour, Petre-Florin Manole, and the Ambassador of the Kingdom of Spain to Romania, Jose Antonio Hernandez Perez-Solorzano.
"Discussions focused on strengthening cooperation between the two countries in areas of common interest, such as the labour market and the pension system. The two officials agreed that it is necessary to strengthen cooperation between the Labour Inspectorate of Romania and that of the Kingdom of Spain. In this regard, they discussed the development of a joint action plan aimed at improving the mechanisms for identifying and supporting Romanian citizens working in Spain, control measures to verify working conditions, and raising awareness among them of their rights and benefits as employees in Spain. With regard to the second area of cooperation discussed, it was decided to prepare a memorandum/agreement/protocol in the field of pensions in order to streamline the transmission of documents between the responsible institutions in the two countries and to shorten waiting times for the calculation of pensions for Romanian citizens who have worked in Romania and Spain," shows the release.
According to the cited source, technical discussions will kick off in order to link the IT systems of the pension funds in the two countries, with a view to facilitating the exchange of information and applying the same rules, so as to prevent fraud in this area and ensure that pension amounts are correctly calculated.
