Romania cannot develop 'with mysticism and stories about Dacian tunnels', but by building road and rail routes that cross the mountains and connect us more quickly to Europe, Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu said on Monday in a post on his Facebook account.
"The completion of the first breakthrough of a tunnel drilled on the Sibiu - Pitesti highway shows that Romania is able to overcome any obstacle to realize its major strategic investments. Breaking through the mountains means the most difficult element on the route of this highway that will produce a major multiplier effect in the economy. We are talking about growing business for thousands of Romanian companies, with a larger volume of goods transported more quickly, about the development of tourism and, above all, a vital support for the growth of exports of the two major car plants, Dacia and Ford", stated Marcel Ciolacu.
The physical stage of the works on the 9.86 kilometers of the construction site of section 4 Tigveni - Curtea de Arges of the Sibiu - Pitesti (A1) motorway has reached almost 64%, with the first tunnel of the 1.35-km Momaia tunnel being broken through on Monday.
"The first tunnel (Sibiu - Pitesti direction) of the Momaia road tunnel has been broken through! It is an important stage for the construction of section 4 (Curtea de Arges - Tigveni) of the Sibiu - Pitesti (A1) motorway. The Momaia tunnel (1.35 km) is the first bored road tunnel built on a motorway in Romania and consists of two unidirectional tunnels (one tunnel for each direction of traffic)," the Minister of Transport and Infrastructure, Sorin Grindeanu announced on his Facebook account.
