Romania has exported, in the first nine months of 2017, a quantity of 7.87 million tons of cereal, a 5.6 pct decrease as compared to the same period in 2016, while incomes have registered a recoil of 2.5 percent, to 1.421 billion euro, according to data from the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MADR) provided at AGERPRES' request.
Comparatively, in the first nine months of 2016, 8.4 million tons of cereal were exported to countries inside and outside the European Community, with a total value of 1.458 billion euro.
According to the trade balance in agricultural goods, wheat was at the top of deliveries on foreign markets, in the period January 1 - September 30, 2017, summing 4.8 million tons and income worth 833.98 million euro, followed by corn grains with 1.695 million tons, worth 384.31 million euro. The proceeds from barley (1.27 million tons) were worth 187.66 million euro.
On the other hand, in the analyzed period, Romania also imported cereal which, later on, largely exported them to other markets. As such, in the first nine months it brought from outside the country 1.863 millions of tons of cereal, worth 349.19 million euro, a drop being noted in comparison to the same period of 2016, both quantitatively (2.36 million tons) as well as in value (415.5 million euro).
MADR data shows that Romania exported, in total, in the first nine months of last year, agricultural products worth over 4.4 billion euro and imported products worth 5.2 billion euro, the deficit registered going up by 79 pct, to 757.34 million euro, compared to the same period of 2016.
The agricultural sector in Romania had, in 2017, one of the best evolutions in the past years, the data from MADR indicating a cereal harvest of nearly 27 million tons, meaning 1.4 tons for each Romanian.
Last year was the source of no less than nine historical records in vegetal cultures, as announced by Agriculture Minister, Petre Daea, one of them being in the production of wheat, rye and triticale, nearly 10 million tons, with a yield of 4.836 kg/ha, while in corn, the harvest yielded 14.5 million tons, with an average of nearly 6 tons per hectare.
