Romania is currently implementing projects for the modernisation of 8,500 km of water pipes and 9,500 km of sewerage pipes in approximately 900 localities, Minister of Investments and European Projects Marcel Bolos announced.
"For hundreds of thousands of Romanians, this means no longer relying on wells or unsafe water sources, having functional bathrooms in their homes, and living in decent conditions. It is essential to accelerate these works because every day of delay means communities waiting for better living conditions. Today, together with the team from the Ministry of Investments and European Projects and the regional water operators, we analysed the preparation stage of water and sewerage projects funded through the Sustainable Development Programme. The discussions focused on concrete solutions to accelerate the implementation of these essential investments, so that the works can progress quickly and in optimal conditions," the minister wrote on his Facebook page on Wednesday.
According to him, the projects are already underway and will reach Teleorman, Arges, Harghita, Giurgiu, Neams, Botosani, Mures, Valcea, Covasna, Arad, Bihor and Tulcea.
The investments amount to 1.9 billion euros, of which 1.5 billion euros come from European funds.
