At a meeting with German ambassador Peer Gebauer, Minister of Entrepreneurship and Tourism Constantin-Daniel Cadariu proposed the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding for bilateral tourism cooperation as a way of maximizing mutual tourist flows, the Tourism Ministry informs in a release, Agerpres reports.
The April 5 meeting was also an occasion for the sides to highlight the importance of cooperation between the two states as well as opportunities to intensify and extend the bilateral partnership.
"Regarding tourism, considering the high number of German visitors arriving every year in Romania, but also the presence here of some of the largest tour operators with German shareholdership, Minister Cadariu proposed the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding for bilateral cooperation in this field. To this effect, Romania intends to promote customised tourism offers in Germany, with an emphasis on the spa and health segment," the release states.
The Romanian side underscored the need to reduce Romania's trade deficit with Germany, suggesting among others the relaunch of the institutional mechanisms for promoting economic cooperation at both federal and land level, specifically the Romanian-German Cooperation Council and the Joint Committees with the lands of Bavaria, Baden Württemberg and Hesse, as well as scaling up economic promotion actions - forums and business seminars with the participation of companies from both countries, the release mentions.
Germany is Romania's main trading partner, accounting for over 20 percent of Romania's total exports.
In 2021, bilateral trade amounted to 35.15 billion euros, up by about 14 percent compared to 2020, of which exports represented 15.34 billion euros (up 8 percent) and imports 19.81 billion euros (up 18 percent).
By the amount of investments Germany currently ranks 3rd with an invested share capital of 5.18 billion euros (11.2 percent of the total foreign investments) and a number of 24,230 joint ventures registered in Romania.
