Romania and Poland are facing contemporary threats together, largely coming from beyond the eastern borders, where the war of aggression waged by the Russian Federation against Ukraine undermines the international order based on the fundamental rules and principles enshrined in the UN Charter and international law, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs states, in the context of the celebration of the Romania-Poland Solidarity Day.

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, jointly established in 2023, this day is "both a symbol of the strong ties that unite the Romanian and Polish people, and a significant indicator of the continuous interest and desire of the two countries to further consolidate and develop the solid and comprehensive Strategic Partnership shared."

"What binds the two countries closely is the focus of foreign policy on security issues and maintaining stability in the region exposed to conventional and hybrid threats, based on a convergent perception of the challenges on NATO's Eastern Flank. We have been together within NATO for 21 years, we have been united by a bilateral Strategic Partnership for 16 years and we have been building European security together for 10 years within the Bucharest Format 9. United in solidarity, our alliance has stood the test of time, proven its resilience and relevance. Sharing the vision of a stronger and more meaningful strategic cooperation, Romania and Poland remain committed to common values and interests," reads a press release sent to AGERPRES.

Along with the security component, the economic, social and educational dimensions are equally important in building mutual solidarity. In addition, through the numerous events organized on the territories of the two countries, the extensive Romania-Poland Cultural Season currently underway brings the two states even closer, reflecting not only the richness of cultures, but also their common history, according to the MAE representatives.

"Celebrating the Romania-Poland Solidarity Day for the second time, we commit ourselves once again to continue to strengthen Romanian-Polish friendship and cooperation, based on the solid historical foundations of the bilateral relationship, to the benefit of the citizens of our countries," highlights the MAE.

The date of March 3 was chosen to mark the anniversary of the signing of the historic document "Convention of Defensive Alliance between the Kingdom of Romania and the Republic of Poland" in 1921, supplemented by the bilateral guarantee treaties of 1926 and 1931. The mutual security guarantees were intended primarily to counter unprovoked aggressions from the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics.
