Over a quarter of Romania's population (25.8 pct) worked in agriculture in 2015, thus placing Romania on the first position in the European Union, where the average population involved in agriculture stood at 4.4 pct, show data of the European Statistical Office (Eurostat) released on Tuesday.
As for the socio-demographic characteristics of the population involved in agriculture, the Eurostat data for 2016 show that women represented 43 pct of Romania's labour force in agriculture.
The share of higher education graduates who work in agriculture is 1.6 pct.
Romania has the lowest share of people hired full-time in agriculture in the EU (1.5 pct), as compared to its 16.4 pct average.
