Romania reports 38 cases of West Nile virus infection since June 2025

The National Institute of Public Health announced that between the beginning of the reporting period, June 2 and October 2, a number of 38 cases of West Nile virus infection (36 confirmed cases and two probable cases) were reported in Romania.

The cases were recorded in Bucharest (12), the counties of Alba (1), Braila (5), Cluj (1), Dolj (1), Dambovita (1), Galati (6), Ilfov (1), Iasi (2), Prahova (1), Salaj (1), Timis (2), Teleorman (1), Tulcea (1), Valcea (1) and Vrancea (1), according to Agerpres.

The infections involved: 20 individuals aged 70-79, six aged 60-69, six aged 50-59, three person aged over 80, one person each from the 10-19, 30-39 and 40-49 age groups.

In this context, the INSP specialists have issued several recommendations for the public:

* Avoid exposure to mosquitoes by wearing long-sleeved clothing and long trousers;

* Use chemical mosquito repellants;

* Prevent mosquitoes from entering homes by installing protective window screens;

* Ensure stagnant water pools around the household are drained;

* Remove containers with standing water and household waste from the property.
