Representatives of the customs authorities of Romania and the Republic of Moldova met in Bucharest to discuss measures to streamline cross border traffic and strengthen the security of their shared border, including the implementation of coordinated controls at border crossing points.
According to a press release sent to AGERPRES, the working meeting took place at the level of the leadership of the two administrations.
"The discussions focused on cooperation to facilitate cross border traffic and secure the common border, with emphasis on the implementation of coordinated control at border crossing points, the operation of the NCTS (New Computerised Transit System) in the new context applicable to the Republic of Moldova, the development of infrastructure projects financed through the CEF (Connecting Europe Facility), the activity of the RO-UA-MD joint working group (Romania - Ukraine - Republic of Moldova), as well as strengthening risk analysis through information exchange and the organisation of workshops and joint training sessions," the release said.
The programme of the visit also included the delegation's participation in the opening of the exhibition "Borders Divide, Customs Connect - The History and Role of Customs in Connecting States", organised at the Palace of the Parliament.
The exhibition highlighted the evolution of the Romanian customs institution and its role in protecting the state's economic interests and in connecting commercial spaces.
"The history of Romanian customs is closely linked to the history of the Romanian state. Over the centuries, customs has not only been a point at the border, but also an instrument of sovereignty and economic stability. Through this exhibition, we reaffirm the role of the customs institution as a link between states and economies," representatives of the Romanian Customs Authority said.
The opening also provided a symbolic framework for reaffirming the strong partnership between the two customs administrations and for highlighting the historical dimension of Romanian Moldovan cooperation in the customs field, the document added.
