In August 2018 Romania's natural population growth was negative at - 1,430, the National Institute of Statistics (INS) announced on Wednesday.
According to INS comparative data 19,033 newborns were registered in August 2018, by 890 more than in the previous month, while the number of deaths was 20,463 - by 311 more than in July.
A number of 22,806 marriages were registered in August, by 4,171 more than in July 2018, while the number of divorces pronounced under final court rulings was 2,269, by 58 more than in the previous month.
The number of live births was by 1,737 higher in August 2018 compared to the previous month while the number of deaths was by 98 higher.
Natural growth was negative both in August 2018 (-1,430) and in August 2017 (-3,069); the number of dead infants aged less than 1 year was by 8 less than in August 2017, reads the document.
