Romania wins gold in women's sculls at Under-23 World Championships

Romania won the gold medal in the women's sculls on Thursday at the U23 World Youth Rowing Championships in St Catharines (Canada).

Emanuela Ciotau, Patricia Cires, athletes who participated in the Olympic Games in Paris, Mariana-Laura Dumitru and Manuela-Gabriela Lungu prevailed with an advance of more than two seconds (06:15.97) over the next crew, Poland (06:18.18).

In the men's double sculls, Andrei Mandrila and Claudiu Neamtu were close to the podium, but they ranked fourth (06:21.22), ahead of New Zealand (06:19.70), Germany (06:20.62) and Italy (06: 20.88).

Romania also qualified for Final A the other four boats from Under-23.

At the Under-19 World Championships, which also take place in St Catharines, two Romanian teams qualified for the A Finals on Thursday.

In the women's double sculls, Iulica Maria Ursu and Gabriela Tivodariu won the second series (07:29.70), ahead of the next crew, Greece (07:35.42), qualifying for the final.

Mateus Simion Cozminciuc and Fabrizio Alexandru Scripcariu qualified for the men's double sculls final, after winning the first requalification series (06:52.86).

In the women's double sculls, Sonia Teodora Bita and Denisa Mihaela Vasilica ensured their presence in the semifinals, after finishing second in the second series of requalifications (07:21.74), a short distance from Spain (07:21.44).

In the women's four-stroke event, Romania (Ionela Elena Scutaru, Adina Alexandra Florea, Stejara Olariu and Bianca Elena Draghici) ranked second in the second series (07:01.04), after the Czech Republic (06:55.99), going on to continue in retraining.

For men, Sebastian Vasile Osoianu, Daniel Vasile Chitic, Darius Florin Simion and Daniel Roman ranked third in the first series (06:18.30), after Italy (06:10.76) and China (06:14.52), so they will start retraining.
