AGERPRES special correspondent Tudor Martalogu reports: The Romanian Presidency at the Council of the European Union will act for a prosperous, safe, united and closer to the citizens Europe, but one that will also be an important actor at global level, Interior Minister Carmen Dan stated on Wednesday when presenting the priorities of the home affairs area in the Committee on Civil Liberties, Justice and Home Affairs (LIBE) of the European Parliament.
The Romanian official mentioned that the Romanian Presidency at the EU Council will pay a priority attention to the strengthening of internal security, management of EU's external border safety, migration management, policies regarding visas and asylum, as well as civil protection of the community block, having always in mind more unity and cohesion, in order to better respond to the European citizens' fears and interests.
Regarding the strengthening of internal security, Minister Carmen Dan stated that the terrorist threat is still very present in Europe, offering as an example the attack which occurred at the end of 2018, at the Christmas market in Strasbourg.
Another priority will be the prevention of radicalisation. In this respect, the Romanian Interior Minister announced that a conference on preventing radicalisation in prisons will be organised in the spring. "In our opinion, the development of the preventive side is important both now and in the future years," Dan stated.
In respect to borders management, Romania will take into account the strengthening of the FRONTEX duties and a better management of the migration issue.
Another priority will be in the asylum policy area, with the Romanian Minister underscoring that the Romanian Presidency at the EU Council will further carry on discussions in order to identify solutions endorsed by as many member states as possible, so that the European asylum system be more efficient.
At the end of her speech, Carmen Dan voiced her hope that the Romanian Presidency at the EU Council have an open and constructive dialogue with the European Commission and with the European Parliament, in view of achieving the proposed objectives and advancing all the files on the agenda.
