Romanian airline Dan Air is resuming flights to Syria, but will temporarily move its operations from Damascus to Aleppo.

According to a press release from the air operator, the decision was taken in the context of the extension of the closure of Damascus airspace, following the outbreak of the conflict in the Middle East.

Thus, between March 15 and March 26, Dan Air will operate, according to schedule, all flights originally planned to Damascus from Aleppo International Airport (ALP).

'The decision to move operations to the airport in Aleppo follows a thorough risk analysis carried out by the safety committee of Dan Air and approved by the Syrian civil aviation authority, which indicated that flights on this route can be operated safely. In addition, the operations are conducted in full compliance with European aviation safety regulations, following ongoing assessments carried out by the company's Safety and Security departments,' the press release said.

All passengers who purchased tickets on the Bucharest - Damascus route and return have been relocated and, starting March 15, will be able to travel from Aleppo International Airport (ALP).

'Resuming flights to Syria was a necessary step, given the high demand from passengers, who currently have very few transport options to leave the conflict zone in the Middle East. There are significant Syrian communities in Europe, and for many of them our flights from Bucharest represent one of the most accessible and direct ways to return home and be with their families. We are constantly monitoring developments in the region and are ready to resume operations at Damascus International Airport as soon as the airspace is reopened,' said Matt Ian David, the airline's chief executive, quoted in the press release.

Bucharest - Aleppo and return flights will operate according to the schedule previously set for the Damascus route, namely every Thursday and Sunday. Operating times remain unchanged. The route launched in June 2025 has become one of the main direct air connections between Syria and the European Union, with thousands of passengers travelling on this route every month, the company noted.

Dan Air is a 100% Romanian airline, founded in 2017 by pilot Dan Iuhas, initially under the name Just Us Air. The company has operated ACMI (Aircraft, Crew, Maintenance, Insurance) flights for various internationally renowned airlines.

In 2024, the company became a member of the International Air Transport Association (IATA), the most prestigious global organisation in the aviation industry, aligning itself with the highest standards of safety, security, sustainability and operational efficiency in aviation.
