The George Enescu Philharmonic invites the public on Tuesday to an extraordinary recital by pianist Ilinca Dumitrescu, in the Great Hall of the Romanian Athenaeum, on the occasion of the Armenian language, alphabet and culture day, informs Agerpres.
According to a press release sent to AGERPRES, works by emblematic Armenian composers will be performed.
"The establishment of such a celebration (October 12) in Romania in 2019 was a first for the Armenian Diaspora. Nowhere else in the world had there been such a thing until the day when the country's Parliament unanimously adopted Law No. 18 of the same year, and President Klaus Iohannis signed, on October 10, 2019, the Decree for the promulgation of this Law, on the establishment of October 12 as 'Armenian language, alphabet and culture day'. It was a noble and remarkable gesture by the state and its authorities towards the Armenian community in Romania, which has been living on this hospitable land for almost a millennium,'' journalist Madeleine Karacasian, a member of the Writers' Union of Romania and the Writers' Union of Armenia, is quoted in the release as saying.
In 2016, UNESCO included the Armenian alphabet in the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity List.
The event is organised in collaboration with the Armenian Archdiocese of Romania and the Union of Armenians in Romania.
