Minister of Foreign Affairs Bogdan Aurescu spoke this Tuesday on the phone with his Finnish counterpart Pekka Haavisto, at the request of the Finnish side; the two top diplomats discussed, among others, the case of Camelia Jalaskoski (Smicala), whose children have been taken some time ago into custody by the Finnish social service.

"Minister Bogdan Aurescu brought to attention the situation of Mrs. Camelia Jalaskoski and her minor children, requesting the support of the Finnish side for a positive settlement of this case. The two dignitaries agreed to continue the dialogue on this subject," the Foreign Ministry said in a release.

The two ministers exchanged views on the developments of the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic in the two countries and on the measures taken to combat its effects on the health of the population, as well as on the action plans envisaged by the authorities for exiting the crisis and supporting the relaunch of activity in various economic and social sectors.

The conversation was also an opportunity to exchange views on the stage and prospects of the two states' cooperation at EU level, with focus on key developments in the Eastern Partnership and the EU support for partner countries' efforts in tackling the coronavirus pandemic and its effects.

In this context, the two ministers discussed the latest developments in the Republic of Moldova, highlighting the importance of the full and consistent implementation by Chisinau of the reforms resulting from the implementation of the Association Agreement and the Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Agreement with the European Union. At the same time, Minister Bogdan Aurescu mentioned the concrete and consistent support provided by Romania to the citizens of the Republic of Moldova in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic, as announced on Monday by President Klaus Iohannis and the Government of Romania and - in line with the provisions of previous bilateral or EU-level contacts - he encouraged the Finnish side to examine the possibility of taking action in this regard, including in coordination with Romania.

Evoking the centennial anniversary this year of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Romania and Finland, the two dignitaries remarked the very good bilateral relations and agreed to asses together the options for marking the anniversary moment and boost high-level dialogue.
