President of the Romanian Football Federation Razvan Burleanu said he felt proud to see Inter Milan head coach Cristian Chivu carry the Olympic torch in the capital of Lombardy on Thursday, one day before the opening ceremony of the Milano-Cortina Winter Olympic Games.

"We were very happy and proud to have a Romanian taking part in the Winter Olympic Games. Especially since Cristi Chivu is loved and appreciated in Milan and throughout Italy for the performance he is achieving now at Inter. If he wins Series A, the joy will be even greater, not only for Inter fans, but also for Romania. Having a coach in a top-five team with the opportunity to win a championship is extremely important," Burleanu said at the launch event of the women's Superliga commercial strategy at the Romanian Football Federation headquarters.

Inter Milan head coach Cristian Chivu had the honor of carrying the Olympic torch on Thursday evening in Milan, ahead of Friday's opening ceremony of the Winter Olympics.

Chivu carried the flame along its route in front of the Sant'Ambrogio Basilica, after receiving the torch from Luciano Buonfiglio, President of the Italian National Olympic Committee (CONI).

The opening ceremony of the Winter Olympic Games will take place this evening at 21:00 (Romania time) at Milan's San Siro Stadium. The Games will conclude on February 22.
