The 70th anniversary of the "Ady Endre" Memorial Museum in Oradea will be celebrated on December 15, through a conference entitled "I'll watch your gaze" / "Orizem a szemed", organised by the Cris Country Museum (MTC) Oradea.
"The conference represents not only a retrospective of the seven decades of the museum's existence, but also an opportunity for literary historians, museographers and researchers from Romania and Hungary to meet," a press release of the MTC states.
The conference offers a new perspective on Ady Endre's work, highlights his connections with Oradea and the city's role in shaping its cultural image, and presents the literary and museum legacies that have contributed to the preservation and development of the Ady cult in recent decades.
In the first thematic section, E. Csorba Csilla, art historian and honorary director of the Petofi Literature Museum in Budapest, will speak about the connection between Ady Endre and the Jokai tradition, followed by Borbas Andrea, PhD, literary historian and chief museographer of the Petofi Literature Museum, who will present the history of Ady's volumes and their importance in literary research.
The second section of the conference focuses on the literary image of Oradea in the 20th century. Lecturer Albu-Balogh Andrea, PhD, from the Partium Christian University of Oradea, will present the literary and organisational career of writer Tabery Geza, and cultural anthropologist Imre Zoltan will analyse the relationship between Ady Endre and Oradea, highlighting the role of the city in modern Hungarian literature.
The last section is dedicated to the history of museums and memorial sites related to the poet's life. Szocs Peter, PhD, deputy director of the Satu Mare County Museum, will provide a presentation of the history of Ady's birthplace in Ermindszent, and historian Szamos Mariann will present the historical context and the establishment of the Ady Endre Memorial Museum in Oradea and its evolution over the 70 years of its existence.
The conference will end with a final synthesis presented by museographer Totos Aron, moderator of the meeting, who will emphasise the importance of memorial sites in preserving literary heritage, in guiding new research directions and in shaping the culture of memory.
The event is organized by MTC with the support of the Bihor County Council and the Oradea City Hall and will take place on December 15, 2025.
