The young Romanian player Mara Gae qualified on Thursday for the quarterfinals of the ITF tournament in Bucharest, with total prizes of 15,000 dollars, by defeating Bianca Elena Barbulescu in two sets, 6-4, 7-6 (7/0).
Gae (19 years old), ranking 1,174th in the world, will play in the quarterfinals with a 16-year-old opponent, German Julia Stusek.
Patricia Georgiana Goina, Giulia Safina Popa, Bianca Elena Barbulescu, Arina Gabriela Vasilescu left the competition in the round of 16.
At doubles, Romania has two pairs in the semifinals, Simona Ogescu/Ioana Teodora Sava, and Stefania Bojica/Anastasia Safta.
