The Romanian Post National Company (CNPR) has commissioned three new Strategic International Exchange Offices (SIEOs) in Timisoara, Cluj-Napoca and Galati, the company announced on Thursday.
Effective March 1, 2026, the new facilities complement the existing hubs in Bucharest and Oradea, increasing CNPR's capacity to handle growing shipment volumes and offering faster processing and improved regional connectivity.
"In the context of market evolution and the rapid diversification of logistics services - from cross-docking to last-mile delivery - the Romanian Post is adapting its infrastructure and operational model to meet rising demand for courier and parcel services. The company is consolidating its transition from traditional postal activities to integrated parcel logistics, supporting fast deliveries and efficient management of the volumes generated by e-commerce," the institution said.
The new exchange offices were designed to optimize logistics flows and operational performance, focusing on efficiency in high-density areas and high processing capacity. Each hub is equipped with automatic sorting lines capable of handling up to 7,000 parcels per hour, streamlining sorting, loading and unloading operations.
They also benefit from direct links to the transport network, enabling compliance with transit-time quality standards and reducing distances traveled by road routes.
According to CNPR, each hub has a strategic regional role. The Timisoara SIEO, located near Romania's western border, facilitates road transit to Hungary, Serbia and the Balkans. The Cluj-Napoca SIEO, in central Romania, supports growing demand for fast deliveries with modern sorting lines, while the Galati SIEO, in the east, is optimized for flows toward the Republic of Moldova and Ukraine.
The Timisoara and Cluj-Napoca hubs also have quick access to international airports, enabling integration with air transport. They can operate with traditional carriers such as TAROM, Lufthansa, LOT and HiSky, as well as low-cost operators including Wizz Air and Ryanair.
The Romanian Post invites designated operators to optimize their logistics chains by directing parcel, postal and EMS (Express Mail Service) traffic to these new access points.
