Romanian slaughterhouses have a growing market for selling Romanian pork in retail stores, says the Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Florin Barbu, who recently asked major retail chains to put more Romanian pork on the shelves.
"A month ago, I asked the major retail chains to put more Romanian pork on the shelves, especially during this winter holiday period. I am happy to note that the call made by the Ministry of Agriculture has been taken up and that Romanian slaughterhouses have a growing market for the sale of Romanian pork in retail stores. An example of this is the Peris slaughterhouse that I had the opportunity to visit today. We have Romanian production, we have the capacity to balance the economy by integrating plant production with animal husbandry, slaughtering and processing in order to obtain quality food products that we can integrate into stores throughout the country," Florin Barbu wrote on Facebook.
According to a press release from the Peris Group sent to AGERPRES, the agriculture minister's visit focused on the role of local processing in ensuring constant access of consumers to Romanian pork in retail networks.
The visit included a tour of processing capacities and applied discussions on the functioning of the agri-food chain, with an emphasis on the integration of local production and the need for predictability, an essential element for the Romanian product to be constantly present on the shelf, not just punctually.
At the same time, the directions of the Ministry of Agriculture regarding supporting local farms, managing health risks and developing processing capacities in Romania were also discussed.
