Servicemen of the 1st General Nicolae Dascalescu Surface-to-Air Missile Brigade will participate in the period November 1 - 12, together with US servicemen of the 5th-7th Air Defence Battalion with the United States European Command Area of Responsibility (USAREUR), in the Patriot Shock V exercise, which will take place in the Capu Midia training camp and surface-to-air shooting range of Constanta County, the National Defence Ministry (MApN) informs.
"Patriot Shock V is a Romanian-US bilateral exercise, on a tactical level with troops on site, of the Romanian Air Forces surface-to-air missile structures, with the participation of a HAWK PIP III and a Patriot battery. The exercise aims at training the HAWK PIP III battery crews to carry out actions of engaging the air targets, through integration with the Patriot battery, as part of a fictitious air defence scenario," the MApN points out.
According to the source, the exercise has as main goals the improvement of the procedures regarding the joint planning and conducting of the air attack combat actions, as well as the verification of the interoperability of the command-control systems of the two surface-to-air missile structures.
The training activity was planned one year before, and it is included in the plan with the main activities of the Air Force Staff.
