Romanian tennis player Miriam Bulgaru made a spectacular debut on Wednesday at the Makarska Open WTA 125 tournament in Croatia, prize pool USD 115,000, with a 7-6 (8/6) 6-2 victory over top seed Sara Sorribes Tormo of Spain.
Bulgaru, 25, world number 199, prevailed in two hours over world top 50 player Sorribes Tormo, 27, world number 43.
In the round of 16, Bulgaru will face France's Leolia Jeanjean, 28, world number 148.
