Romanian tennis player Monica Niculescu on Sunday advanced to the round of 16 of the women's doubles event at the Qatar Open WTA 1,000 tournament in Doha, total financial commitment USD 3,664,963.
Niculescu and Norway's Ulrikke Eikeri prevailed 6-4 6-4 over Linda Noskova (Czech Republic)/Iulia Putintseva (Kazakhstan) in one hour and 19 minutes.
Niculescu and her partner, who will meet the reigning Olympic doubles champions Sara Errania/Jasmine Paolini in the round of 16, won USD 15,570 and 120 WTA doubles points.
In the singles event first round, Romanian qualifier Gabriela Ruse, 27, world number 112 WTA, retired in the decisive set of the match against Greek Maria Sakkari , 29, world number 29 at 4-6, 6-3, 4-0 for her, after two hours of play.
Ruse is left with USD 16,900 and 40 WTA singles points for participation.
