Romania's updated Flood Hazard and Flood Risk maps were uploaded to the official website of the European Union, a step that also closed an infringement case against Romania, Minister of the Environment, Waters and Forestry Barna Tanczos declared on Monday.

"In the longer term, the Management Plan must be the basic reference document for the eligibility of investments both at the level of the Romanian Waters National Administration (ANAR) and at the level of local public authorities. We will have to find prevention solutions by raising dykes, through relatively simple urban planning measures, or through much more complicated and much more expensive measures, like those that are implemented in the drainage basins, through ANAR. (...) The documents were uploaded to the official webpage of the European Union, an obligation Romania checked on September 30. The procedures [for producing the hazard and risk maps] from 2-3 years ago took quite a long time until the contracting of the services and the subsequent start of the actual implementation, with the help of the World Bank," the Minister told a briefing and presentation session about the updated Flood Hazard and Flood Risk Maps developed as part of the RO-FLOODS project.

Tanczos also mentioned that the updating of Romania's Flood Hazard and Flood Risk Maps is the result of a scientific activity carried out together with the World Bank.

RO-FLOODS aims to update the flood hazard and risk maps, as well as the Flood Risk Management Plans for the period 2022-2027 at the level of all of the country's 11 Water Basin Administrations.

The total value of the project is 139.996 million RON, of which the non-reimbursable eligible amount is 118.548 million RON, and co-financing accounts for 21.448 million RON. AGERPRES
