Forests under the public ownership of the state, administered by the National Forestry Administration (RNP) - Romsilva, were affected in the first 11 months of the year by 492 fires, down 19% compared to the same period last year, when 606 fires occurred, according to data provided by RNP-Romsilva, Agerpres reports.
The value of the damage caused by fires in the state forest fund administered by Romsilva amounts to 2.7 million RON.
"The fires in the first 11 months of this year affected a total area of 7,823 hectares of forest, destroying trees with a cumulative volume of 1,685 cubic meters and 333,000 forest saplings, and the value of the damage was estimated at 2.7 million RON. Most fires in the state's public forest, respectively 72, occurred at the Gorj Forestry Directorate, but numerous fires were also recorded at the Mehedinti Forestry Directorate - 51, at the Caras - Severin Forestry Directorate - 47 and at the Hunedoara Forestry Directorate - 45 fires," the agency's representatives reported.
The National Forestry Administration - Romsilva administers 4.2 million hectares of forests, of which 3.13 million hectares are state-owned forests, about 48% of the country's forests, and for one million hectares of forests under other forms of ownership it provides forestry services.
Romsilva also manages 22 national and natural parks, as well as 12 state stud farms.
All state-owned forests have international standard forest management certification.
