Romsilva to regenerate 7,112 hectares of state-owned forest this spring

The National Forest Administration - Romsilva will regenerate 7,112 hectares of state-owned forest this spring, including 4,520 hectares through natural regeneration and 2,592 hectares through afforestation works, the agency announced on Tuesday.

The largest areas to be naturally regenerated are in the forestry directorates of Suceava (441 hectares), Neamt (425 hectares), Caras-Severin (353 hectares) and Bacau (362 hectares). As for artificial regeneration, the most extensive afforestation works will take place in Suceava (668 hectares), Neamt (246 hectares) and Mures (164 hectares).

During the spring afforestation campaign, Romsilva will also carry out supplementary planting works on 1,895 hectares and restore damaged plantations on another 539 hectares.

For the entire year 2026, the forest regeneration programme for state-owned forests managed by Romsilva ??????????? regenerating 9,500 hectares, including 5,920 hectares through natural regeneration and 3,580 hectares through artificial regeneration, during the spring and autumn planting campaigns.

To carry out all afforestation, restoration and supplementary planting works, approximately 25 million forest seedlings will be used, most of them produced in Romsilva's own nurseries.

Over the past six years, the National Forest Administration has regenerated 83,584 hectares of state-owned forest, including 26,736 hectares through afforestation and 56,848 hectares through natural regeneration, with more than 155 million forest seedlings planted.

Romsilva on Tuesday marked the start of the Tree Planting Month and the spring afforestation campaign through an event organised at the Bucsani Forestry District, within the Dambovita Forestry Directorate.

Tree Planting Month takes place annually between 15 March and 15 April, in accordance with the Forestry Code, a period that partially overlaps with spring afforestation works.

The planting event was attended by Romsilva Director-General Jean Visan, as well as specialists from the agency and the Dambovita Forestry Directorate.

Romsilva manages 3.13 million hectares of state-owned forests and provides forestry services for approximately one million hectares of forests under other forms of ownership.

All state-owned forests managed by Romsilva are certified under international forest management systems.

The National Forest Administration - Romsilva also manages 22 national and natural parks, covering a total area of over 850,000 hectares, as well as 12 state stud farms and four stallion depots.
