The SofistiCAT International Cat Show will take place this weekend at the Palace Hall in Bucharest.
According to the organisers, on 21 and 22 March the capital becomes the stage for the first major feline competition of the year in south-eastern Europe.
Some of the most spectacular cats in Europe will compete at the SofistiCAT International Cat Show for the exhibition's top titles, alongside Romania's feline stars of the year, a press release sent to AGERPRES on Tuesday said.
Among the stars of the competition is Kira Kiralina, a blue British Shorthair, nicknamed by admirers "the blue she-bear of Bucovina", world champion in 2025 and European champion in 2026, as well as Nexus, a British Shorthair Silver tomcat, European champion FIFe 2025 and Baltic champion 2025. The most moving story comes from Duracell. Once a stray cat struggling to survive on the streets of Iasi, Duracell has now become a European champion after winning the top prize last month at the European Cat Championship in Graz, Austria, organisers said.
During the event, visitors will also be able to discover rescued cats looking for a family, and those interested can even take the first step towards adoption.
The SofistiCAT show will also host an important moment for the European felinology world: the final examination for a FIFe judge, to be taken by George Dorgiakis, president of Felis Greece.
The exam is one of the most demanding stages in training an international judge, where in-depth knowledge of breeds, understanding of feline behaviour and communication skills are tested before top specialists in the field, the cited source said.
At the SofistiCAT International Cat Show, the public will be able to watch competitions between dozens of spectacular cat breeds, including European and world champions, as well as the finals where the most beautiful cats of the exhibition are selected.
"For two days, the Palace Hall becomes the European capital of pedigree cats, in a weekend where elegance, mystery and beauty turn the competition into a true spectacle of European felinology," the organisers said.
