The Custodian of the Romanian Crown, Her Majesty Margareta, and His Royal Highness Prince Radu visited the Satakunta Air Wing Air Base in Tampere on Thursday, this being the last point in the programme of the visit they undertook this week in Finland.
The two members of the Royal Family of Romania were welcomed by the commander of the military base, Colonel Markus Leivo, accompanied by Chief of Staff, Lieutenant-Colonel Petri Landkammer, who presented them with some of the planes used in this base by the military aviation of Finland.
Also, the representatives of the Royal Family discussed with the two Finnish air force commanders about the NATO Sir Shirlding mission in Romania scheduled for June-July, the first action of this type in which Finland takes part as an ally.
During their visit to Finland, the representatives of the Royal Family of Romania met with Anders Adlercreutz, the minister of European Affairs of the Finnish government, they visited the European Center of Excellence for Combating Hybrid Threats in the Finnish capital, they visited the patrol vessel Turva of the Finnish Coast Guard, later participating in a reception offered by Maria Ligor, the Romanian ambassador to Finland.
On the second day, the programme of the Custodian of the Romanian Crown and Prince Radu included a dialogue with the speaker of the Finnish parliament, Jussi Halla-aho, followed by a courtesy meeting with the president of the Foreign Affairs Committee, Kimmo Kiljunen, and visits to the European Agency for Chemical Products (ECHA) and the Finnish Chamber of Commerce.
Also on Wednesday the two members of the Royal House of Romania had a meeting with the mayor of the city of Tampere, Kalervo Kummola, after which they visited the University of Tampere, the Milavida Museo and participated in a meeting with the Romanian community in this Finnish city, the last day of the programme of the visit to Finland being dedicated to the trip to the Satakunta Air Wing Air Base in Tampere.
The official delegation also included the Romanian ambassador to Finland, Maria Ligor, the director Adrian Ligor with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Brigadier General Iulian Daniliuc from the General Staff of Defense and Traian Sarca, the chancellor of the Royal House.
This is the seventh foreign trip of the Royal Family in 2024, after the visit of Princess Sofia to Poland, the economic mission of Prince Radu to the Republic of Moldova, the visit of Princess Maria to England, the visit of the Custodian of the Crown to the Kingdom of Belgium, the visit of Prince Radu to France and the visit of the Custodian of the Crown to the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg. It is also the third official visit of the Royal Family of Romania to Finland in the last twenty years, after the visit in September 2003 and the one in December 2006.
