Presidential hopeful Crin Antonescu, who is backed by the ruling coalition of the National Liberal Party (PNL), the Social Democratic Party (PSD), and the Hungarian Democratic Union of Romania (UDMR), told a press conference in Iasi on Friday that in the last ten years he has not contributed to the state budget, but neither has he damaged the budget with a single dime.

Asked about the amount of his personal contribution to the state budget in the last ten years, Antonescu explained that although he did not contribute a single dime to the state budget, neither did he enjoy well-paid public office so as to cause the Romanian state budget any damage.

"In the last ten years I have not contributed to the state budget, but what I respectfully invite you to think about in order to up your sympathy for me - and I am very particular on that - is that I have not damaged the state budget with a single dime. I wasn't offered any board chairmanship, no well-paid position, no businesses to milk the public budget. I didn't give a dime, nor did I take one. Fair enough," replied Crin Antonescu.

The ruling coalition's candidate Crin Antonescu visited on Friday Iasi city, where he met with local business people and company representatives. Also on Friday, Antonescu had talks with the PNL and PSD mayors and with local political leaders.
