Ireland’s low-cost carrier Ryanair announced on Tuesday, through CEO Michael O’Leary, present for a few hours at a press conference also attended by newly appointed Ambassador of Ireland to Romania, Mr. Derek Feely, that it will open a new base – its 81st – at the Otopeni Bucharest Airport, acordint nineoclock.ro

This will be possible starting on October 30, when three airplanes – representing a EUR 300 M investment – will start to operate on two new routes to Athens and Timisoara and several flights to Brussels, Dublin and Milan, being expected to carry 1.4 million clients per year. All of this is expected to support over 1,000 jobs, Ryanair registering a traffic hike of 75 per cent in Bucharest.

Ryanair representatives announced that this winter would bring flights to Timisoara (2 per day), Brussels Charelroi (9 per week), Milan Malpensa (1 per day), Milan Bergamo (9 per week), Dublin (5 per week), Roma Ciampiano (2 per day), Athens (1 per day), Madrid (1 per day), Bologna (5 per week), and London Stansted (2 per day).

In what concerns the prices, the sale of tickets at promotional prices of as low as EUR 9.99 will soon start.
“We continue to expect new routes, growth in traffic, jobs and tourism on the two Romanian bases in Bucharest and Timisoara. In order to celebrate our new base in Bucharest, we put up for sale seats at the promotional price of just EUR 9.99 for flights in March, which have to be reserved by Thursday, February 18, at the latest,” the company’s CEO added.

He pointed out that clients should access www.ryanair.com for reservations.

This year, Ryanair opened in Timisoara its first base in Romania. Ryanair’s plans in Timisoara include six new international and one internal route starting in November (Timisoara-Bucharest).

Ryanair is currently present in 31 countries, has a fleet of over 300 airplanes and has placed orders for 300 more.
