On Friday, the Police and prosecutors carried out seven searches in Bucharest City in a case regarding the organisation by an association of master's degree programmes without holding the requested approvals or accreditations of the Ministry of Education.
The Prosecutor's Office with the Supreme Court (PICCJ) reported in a press statement released on Friday that the case prosecutor from the Criminal Investigation and Forensic Section of the Prosecutor's Office with the Supreme Court ordered the conduct of seven house searches in Bucharest, at the addresses of individuals and the headquarters of some legal entities, investigated for deception, misrepresentation in official documents and documents under private signature. Helping with the searches was the Economic Crime Investigation Directorate of the Romanian General Police Inspectorate (IGPR).
Prosecutors say the crimes investigated were committed by officials of an association operating in Bucharest, who have held since 2017, master's degree classes claiming that they enjoy alleged collaborations with prestigious European universities, but they do not hold the approvals or accreditations of the Ministry of Education, Agerpres informs.
"For this, the association allegedly attracted participants through various methods of promotion charging them tuition fees, directly or through a third company, and at the end of the classes it allegedly issued certificates of completion or certificates of participation, which would carry identification elements of the partner institutions without them having knowledge and without being recognised by the Ministry of Education," explains PICCJ.
