President of the Senate Mircea Abrudean highlighted on Monday, on the Constitution Day, that the country's fundamental law is the citizens' "contract" with the state through which their freedom, their right to expression, work and dignity are protected.
"Happy birthday to the Constitution of Romania! Thirty four years ago, Romania validated through referendum its first democratic Constitution adopted after the 1989 Revolution, an important moment in our history which marked the end of the communist regime. The Constitution is our contract with the state. It protects our freedom, the right to expression, the right to work and the right to dignity. The Constitution guarantees our equality before the law, protects our private life and gives us the right to say what we think," Abrudean wrote on his Facebook page.
He underscored that in 1991 "Romania closed the era of fear and opened the path to freedom," basically laying "a foundation" for everyday life.
"8 December is not only the Constitution Day. It is the day of our freedom, of our strong voice in the world," Mircea Abrudean highlighted.
