Senate President Mircea Abrudean had a bilateral meeting on Sunday with his Ukrainian counterpart, the President of the Supreme Rada, Ruslan Stefanchuk, during which he conveyed to the high Ukrainian official that Ukraine needs to fully observe the rights of persons belonging to the Romanian minority in this country, especially in the context of its EU aspirations.

Abrudean is participating in the fourth Parliamentary Summit of the Crimean Platform, which is taking place in Stockholm, agerpres reports.

"This evening, I had a bilateral meeting with my Ukrainian counterpart, the President of the Verkhovna Rada, Ruslan Stefanchuk. We discussed the support that Romania provides to the authorities in Kiev, both in the context of the Russian Federation's war of aggression, and in the context of the Ukrainian aspirations for EU accession. I told my counterpart that a European, strong and inclusive Ukraine also needs to fully observe the rights of persons belonging to the Romanian minority in Ukraine, including the right to learn in the Romanian language," Abrudean wrote on Facebook.

The Romanian official also "clearly" mentioned that Romania ensures full protection for the Ukrainian minority and all minorities, including through parliamentary representation.
