Senate President Calin Popescu-Tariceanu said on Friday that the position of Deputy Prime Minister for whom Ana Birchall has been proposed underlines the importance of the field she will coordinate, stressing that the number of ministers in the Dancila Cabinet will be the same as in the Tudose Government.
"The number of members of the Cabinet remains the same. This position [of Birchall] is meant to emphasize the importance of the field that the Deputy Prime Minister will coordinate," Tariceanu said in Parliament.
Asked about Radu Oprea, proposed by the PSD National Executive Committee as Business Milieu Minister and who is legally embattled, Tariceanu said: "This is news to me. I do not know this about Mr. Oprea, but I would like to point out that in the frenzy that has taken over the activity of the prosecutor's offices in Romania in the past years, I believe that very few politicians are left without a file on their heads. I have noticed also something else: that some people who had been accused and even deprived of their freedom for months, then they were acquitted, and that should oblige all of us to a certain reservation and at least seriously consider the presumption of innocence as a key-factor in considering those who are at one moment the target of such actions."
