Senate President Mircea Abrudean said on Monday that all three censure motions submitted by the Opposition in the Senate must be rejected "unequivocally", stressing that the government coalition parties have the duty to prove solidarity with the Government.
"Today, in the Romanian Senate, all three simple motions submitted by the Opposition must be rejected unequivocally. The coalition parties have a duty to demonstrate solidarity with the Government, as is only natural within a responsible political and governing majority. The stability and coherence of the act of governance depend on this unity," Abrudean said in a Facebook post.
According to the Senate President, any MP who chose to vote in favour of one of these motions would, in effect, be sending a political signal of alignment with the "AUR [the Alliance for the Union of Romanians] agenda and accepting a relationship of "political vassalage" towards that party.
"Romania needs responsibility, not political games that undermine the majority and the stability of governance," Mircea Abrudean added.
The Senate is debating three simple motions on Monday, starting at 4:00 pm. One targets the Minister of Defence, Radu Miruta, the second the interim Minister of Education, Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan, and the third concerns Romania's position on the EU-Mercosur Agreement.
