Senate President Ciuca, after meeting Canadian counterpart: Canada, important partner of Romania in transatlantic relations
President of the Senate Nicolae Ciuca said on Wednesday, after a meeting with his Canadian counterpart, Raymonde Gagne, that Canada is an important partner of Romania in the transatlantic relations, with the same views on geopolitics and economy, told Agerpres.
"This morning I had a meeting with Mrs Raymonde Gagne, President of the Senate of Canada, an excellent partner for dialogue on strengthening relations between the two countries. In the field of energy, we have a long-standing cooperation with solid growth prospects. The Canadian side has already expressed its interest in the project to build reactors 3 and 4 of the Cernavoda Nuclear Power Plant, but also its intention to get involved in the development of the revolutionary technology of small modular reactors (SMR), which will be researched in Romania," Ciuca wrote on Facebook on Wednesday.
Among the topics addressed by the two officials were the importance of the role played by Romanians in Canada in deepening cultural relations between the two countries and the benefits of gender balance in politics.
"Canada is an important partner for Romania in transatlantic relations. We share the same views on geopolitics and economics, and close relations and coordination in these difficult international times remain fundamental elements in countering Russia's imperialist ambitions in our region. The President of the Canadian Senate thanked Romania for its support to Ukraine and the Republic of Moldova in this challenging period from Moscow. We also discussed the essential role of Romanians in Canada, especially in deepening cultural relations between the two countries. My counterpart expressed her interest in increasing the presence of women at the executive and legislative levels in Romania and reiterated the benefits of gender balance in politics," added Ciuca.
