Senate President Mircea Abrudean is on an official visit to Japan June 25 to 28 amid the ongoing Expo 2025 Osaka, and is scheduled to meet with the Speaker of Japan's House of Representatives Fukushiro Nukaga.
Addressing the official ceremony for the celebration of Romania's National Day at Expo 2025, which coincided with National Flag Day, Mircea Abrudean commended the role of the Romania - Japan Innovation Forum launched in Cluj, a platform that served as "a catalyst" for other similar events in energy, technology, science, education and economy, agerpres reports.
"Expo 2025 Osaka is a clear opportunity to raise Japan's investments in Romania to the level of our Strategic Partnership. Let us not forget that since 2023, Romanian-Japanese projects have been on an upward trend. Let me emphasize the role of the Romania - Japan Innovation Forum launched in Cluj, a platform that was a catalyst for other similar events in energy, technology, science, education and economy. By representing Romania today, here, at the highest parliamentary level, we are sending a clear signal regarding the openness towards a consolidated partnership with Japan at a key moment for the economic and diplomatic repositioning in the Asia-Pacific region," Abrudean told the ceremony were representatives of the Japanese authorities and the diplomatic corps were also present, a Senate statement informs.
The exhibition held in Kansai brings together over 160 countries and international organizations, being one of the most important global platforms for dialogue, innovation and cooperation. The Romanian Pavilion is representative for the country's innovation, creativity and technological potential, highlighting excellence in fields such as medicine, scientific research, technology and artistic creativity.
On Friday, the Senate President is scheduled to hold bilateral meetings in Tokyo with Parliamentary Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs Akiko Ikuina, as well as with the Speaker of Japan's House of Representatives Fukushiro Nukaga.
Abrudean will also meet with the former Minister of Economy and current member of the Japanese House of Representatives Yasutoshi Nishimura, the Vice Chair of the Keidanren (the Japanese Business Confederation), representatives of Japanese multinational technology and business solutions company NTT Corporation, other representatives of the economic milieu.
Through this visit, the Romanian Senate "actively contributes to the development of an extended cooperation framework, which includes political, economic, scientific and cultural dimensions, in accordance with the Romania - Japan Strategic Partnership," the cited release also states.
