Senate President: Ukrainian army is defending its people and Europe from Kremlin's neo-imperial ambitions
President of the Senate Nicolae Ciuca said in a message on the occasion of Ukraine's Independence Day that, in the war with Russia, the Ukrainian army is defending its own people and Europe "from the neo-imperial ambitions of the Kremlin and the strength of its weapons."
"Today Ukraine celebrates 32 years of independence from the USSR, in the darkest period of its history. The unjustified and unprovoked war began exactly a year and a half ago, when Russia brought back to Europe the invasion to conquer territories and annex parts of other states, through murder, abuse and violence. By standing up to the invaders, the Ukrainian army is defending both its own people and Europe from Kremlin's neo-imperial ambitions and the force of its weapons. In this context, it is natural that Romania is part of the common effort of the free world to support Ukraine in the fight against a cruel and irrational enemy," Ciuca wrote on Facebook on Thursday.
He brings to mind that this is the second year Ukrainians celebrate their national day "under Russian bombs."
"We stand with the Ukrainian people, forced to fight a war for independence almost a hundred years after 1917-1921. Fighting for its freedom, the neighbouring country is fighting for the freedom of the whole region," Nicolae Ciuca added.
