The repeated postponements of the Constitutional Court of Romania's (CCR) decision regarding the pensions reform cannot become a blocking strategy, the Senate President, Liberal Mircea Abrudean said, Agerpres reports.

"We observe the role of the Constitutional Court, but Romania needs a clear decision to allow the continuation of the assumed reforms. The pensions reform means the end of privileges and that probably bothers some. We cannot allow political games, especially with such an important stake," Abrudean wrote on his Facebook page on Monday.

According to him, "Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan will not give in to pressures and neither will the National Liberal Party (PNL), whether they come from political or institutional area."

"Let us be aware that blockages have real consequences: we risk losing the PNRR [the National Recovery and Resilience Plan] funds. Romania must move forward. The reform can no longer be postponed," Mircea Abrudean pointed out.

President of the Constitutional Court of Romania (CCR) Simina Tanasescu announced on Monday that the referral filed by the High Court of Cassation and Justice (ICCJ) regarding the new draft law of the Bolojan Government on magistrates' pensions reform has been postponed to 16 January due to a lack of quorum.

According to some CCR sources, the four judges proposed by the Social Democratic Party (PSD) at the Constitutional Court, namely Cristian Deliorga, Gheorghe Stan, Bogdan Licu and Mihai Busuioc did not attend Monday's session. They also left the meeting on Sunday and did not return for the debates.

The new draft amending magistrates' pensions, adopted by the Government provides for a phased increase in the retirement age to 65. The amount of the pension may not exceed 70 percent of the net allowance received in the final month of activity.
