Romania can and must become a logistics hub for Ukraine's reconstruction once the war ends, Senate President Mircea Abrudean said on Wednesday, mentioning that the establishment of a chamber of commerce with the Republic of Moldova and Ukraine would provide a joint institutional platform for cross-border projects, according to Agerpres.
"Romania, the Republic of Moldova and Ukraine want to set up a Trilateral Chamber of Commerce. This will provide a common institutional platform through which companies from the three countries, as well as from other European Union member states, will be able to establish public-private partnerships and consortia for cross-border projects aimed at rebuilding Ukrainian infrastructure, the economy and communities affected by the war. Romania can and must become a logistics hub for Ukraine's reconstruction once the war ends, a moment so eagerly awaited by all of us," Abrudean wrote on his Facebook page.
He mentioned that Romania, the Republic of Moldova and Ukraine are key pillars on NATO's Eastern flank and that investments in infrastructure, defence and strategic partnerships, especially with the United States, are essential.
"When we talk about strong borders, it is paramount to protect our territory and sovereignty, but also to have strong economic partnerships. On NATO's Eastern flank, Romania, the Republic of Moldova and Ukraine are key pillars and investments in infrastructure, defence and strategic partnerships, especially with the US, are essential. The initiative of the Institute for Development and Expertise of Projects of the Republic of Moldova to create a Joint Trilateral Chamber of Commerce already has the support of more than 250 institutions and organisations from the three countries and has been included in the strategic document of the Alliance of Eastern European Eurodeputies for the Reconstruction of Ukraine," the Senate President said.
