Senate's Ciuca, after meeting Moldovan President Sandu, announces new bridges over Prut River
Supporting the Republic of Moldova on its European path, energy interconnection and building bridges to improve links with neighbours across the Prut River were among the topics discussed on Wednesday by President of the Senate Nicolae Ciuca, in his meeting with President of the Republic of Moldova Maia Sandu, told Agerpres.
"I had the pleasure of another very good dialogue with the President of the Republic of Moldova, Maia Sandu. Especially since she came to Bucharest for a very important moment, namely the participation of the Republic of Moldova in the Three Seas Initiative Summit. We discussed the support we give to Moldova on its European path, with a view to opening accession negotiations and I conveyed Romania's congratulations for the way in which Chisinau has implemented the new recommendations of the European Commission. The European Parliament has already voted a resolution (supported by all the National Liberal Party - PNL MEPs) asking the Commission to start negotiations with Moldova by the end of this year," Ciuca wrote on Facebook.
He brought to mind that he continues to support the energy security of the Republic of Moldova.
"In the energy area, the interconnection with Romania is already a reality, as our country has the availability and capacity to supply both natural gas and electricity across the Prut. Transgaz will take over - through its Moldovan sub sidiary - the operation, exploitation, dispatching and transmission of natural gas from the neighbouring country. Ensuring the energy security of the Republic of Moldova in this way was a project that I supported as prime minister and that I still support now. Also, in the area of transport, new bridges will be built across the Prut, which will increase the number of border crossing points; thus, the links between the two countries will be considerably improved," Ciuca added.
