President of the Senate Nicolae Ciuca on Monday delivered a message on the occasion of the National Anthem Day, in which he says the anthem is "a symbol of unity, courage and the spirit of sacrifice of our people."

"Today we celebrate the National Anthem Day, a day with deep meaning for our identity and pride. 'Desteapta-te romane!' [Wake up Romanians!] it is the call to which our souls vibrate. It is a symbol of the unity, courage and the spirit of sacrifice of our people.

Since the Revolution of 1848, when it was sung for the first time, the anthem has been a mobilizing call in the struggle with the challenges of the times, a bridge between the past and the future.

This day is about unity and hope, about the connection with our ancestors, who fought and built today's Romania. Through the lyrics of the anthem, we tell the world that we are a strong and worthy people, which overcomes any challenge of history," Ciuca wrote on Facebook.

Romania's National Anthem Day, a symbol of the unity of the Romanian Revolution since 1848 - is celebrated annually on July 29, the date on which, in 1848, 'Desteapta-te romane!' was sung for the first time officially, in the Zavoi Park in Ramnicu Valcea.
