Improving Romanian-Polish cooperation on the eastern European flank was one of the topics discussed on Wednesday at a meeting of Chairman of the Romanian Senate Mircea Abrudean and Polish Defence Minister Wladislaw Kosiniak-Kamysz.
"In the context of my visit to Poland, at this morning's meeting with Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of National Defence Wladislaw Kosiniak-Kamysz, we discussed the strengthening and improvement of our cooperation on the European Eastern Flank, and also the continuation of collaboration at the level of the defence committees of the two parliaments. The support that the two countries provide to Ukraine and the Republic of Moldova is actually support that we provide to the European Union to remain strong at the geostrategic level," Abrudean wrote in a social media post.
He added that Romania and Poland have competitive defence industries, and investments in this economic sector are important.
"That is why bilateral expertise and trade matter more in this tense period, as does the need to pass legislation to help us deal with war and hybrid challenges (combatting disinformation, identifying algorithms, etc.). I was glad that the law adopted by Romania last year, which allows the authorities to shoot down unauthorised drones in the national airspace, after taking some steps, was appreciated by Poland and will be a model to be replicated in the country as well. Our cooperation continues. The strategic partnership between the two states is stable and constantly developing," Abrudean added.
A delegation of Romanian lawmakers led by Abrudean was on an official visit to Poland on Tuesday and Wednesday.
Abrudean had meetings on Tuesday with the head of the Polish Senate, Malgorzata Kidawa-Blonska, and her deputy Szymon Holownia.
Also, Abrudean laid a wreath on Tuesday at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in Warsaw, as a sign of homage to the sacrifice of the unknown heroes who fought for the independence of Poland, and signed in the guestbook at the Royal Castle, currently a museum.
