Sever Muresan, Romania's first tennis player to join ATP, dead at 75

Former tennis player Sever Muresan, the first Romanian member of the ATP, has died at 75, the Dinamo Sports Club announced on Wednesday on social media, informs Agerpres.

"The Dinamo Sports Club is bemoaning the passing away of Sever Muresan, a former player of the CS Dinamo tennis section and of the Romanian Davis Cup team. Born on October 23, 1948, Muresan passed away last night in France, where he was hospitalised after a stroke. Condolences to the family! Rest in peace!," reads the post.

Muresan was a graduate of the Institute of Physical Education and Sport and became national champion playing for Dinamo in 1968, in the doubles event. Two years later, he became the first Romanian professional player to be a member of the ATP, being called up to the Romanian Davis Cup team.

Becoming a businessman, after 1989 he brought and organised in the country the largest tennis tournament, Open Romania.
