Several flights were cancelled on Wednesday morning due to heavy snowfall and strong blizzard conditions, and five aircraft were diverted to other airports, the Bucharest Airports National Company (CNAB) informs on Wednesday morning.

'Air traffic at the Bucharest-based Henri Coanda International Airport and at the Baneasa-based Aurel Vlaicu International Airport [near Bucharest] is operating in conditions of heavy snowfall and strong blizzard gusts that are blowing snow across the ground, hampering airport operations. Due to the weather conditions, the following flights have been cancelled: LOT 643/644 Warsaw - Bucharest - Warsaw, Tarom RO 210 Chisinau - Bucharest and Tarom 810 Suceava - Bucharest. Turkish Airlines flight 1043/1044 Istanbul - Bucharest - Istanbul has also been canceled,' CNAB representatives stated.

Heavy snowfall also led to the diversion of five aircraft to other airports: Ryanair 5262 Dublin - Bucharest diverted to the airport in Varna, Wizz Air 3290 Porto - Bucharest landed in Sofia, HiSky 236 Tel Aviv - Bucharest landed in Cluj, Dan Air 508 Dublin - Bucharest was diverted to the airport in Craiova, and Qatar Airways 219 Doha - Bucharest was redirected towards Athens.

According to the same source, flights may experience delays due to the need to de-ice aircraft - a procedure carried out by airlines after passengers have boarded - as well as because of ground operations being hindered by the snowfall.

The airports representatives recommend that passengers take all necessary measures to arrive at the airport in good time and contact their airlines for information regarding their specific flights.
